Take a day or more and visit my Long Island. Travel to Riverhead, NY located at the end of the Long Island Expressway(LIE or I-495) just at the split of the twin forks. From Manhattan take the Queens Midtown tunnel onto the LIE until the end last exit #73.
First thing drop the kids off at "Splish Splash" water park. Named one of the best water parks in the nation by the travel channel.
If the kids aren't into swimming themselves, then let them learn with the fishes at the Atlantis Marine world Aquarium on main street.
After the kids are gone, Time to go shopping. In Riverhead you'll find a variety of stores including BJ's wholesale club, Walmart, Target, Kmart, Toys R Us, Sports Authority and more. But if you can't find what your looking for there, Visit the Tanger Outlets. Tanger Outlets with two Main buildings a few off shoots have over 100 shops and two food courts. The Outlets is so large there is a shuttle bus to get you around.
For lunch travel down route #58. There you will find just about any fast food you can want except White Castles and Arbry. Full Service restaurants in town include Friendly's, Ground Round, Boulder Creek, Applebees, TGI Fridays and a Dinner.
If your going to be around Saturday Night, then Visit My Long Island's only Nascar approved Race track. Gates open at early first race starts at 6pm.
If your going to stay over night there are two new hotels in town the Hilton Garden Inn and the Holiday Inn Express. Weekends for the Summer are already booked up, but if you travel with in a 1/2 hour west you can find a larger selection of great hotels from exits 56-63 on the LIE
In The morning visit some farm stands with fresh veggies and fruits. If you wish you can pick your own. Take Rt 58 to the traffic Circle to Roanoke ave. On Roanoke Ave you'll pass a Bison Ranch visible from the road. Make a left on Sound ave and Visit Lewin Farms. R At the end of Sound Ave make a left on rt 25A and a Right at rt 25. Grumman Park should be right in front of you. On Display to Long Island made Navy jets including the F14 that was featured in the movie "Top Gun" with Tom Cruise.
Make a Right out of the Park to go back to Riverhead, Splish Splash and the Long Island Expressway
